THE idea of putting together a play dealing with anti social behaviour first came to Danny Sturrock and Johnny Carrington from the Oaklands Community School drama department while at the National Student Drama Festival.
Four years later Bang Out of Order was born.
The play, which gets the message across through music, dance and comedy, aims to show young people there is a consequence to their actions.
It has been performed six times at Oaklands and on the road and won awards at Totton Drama Festival, New Forest Drama Festival, the All England Theatre Festival and the Youth Challenge Cup.
Oaklands is the only school in Southampton to have been awarded one of the Home Office Taking A Stand awards, which they will collect from London in a glittering ceremony later this year.
Now, thanks to the award and a £2,000 cheque from Southampton City Council, which was presented by Mayor of Southampton John Slade this week, the cast are off to perform at the Edinburgh Festival (Fringe) in August.
Danny Sturrock said: "The Edinburgh Festival (Fringe) is the largest festival of its kind in the world so this will not only be an amazing experience for the company but it will also open up Bang Out of Order to a much wider audience."
Bang Out of Order is due to be performed one more time before the cast go off to Edinburgh.
The performance will take place at Oaklands on June 29 at 7.30pm. All tickets are at a discounted rate of £2.50 from Oaklands reception on 023 8039 3660.
