FAREHAM Council's executive leader Sean Woodward, pictured, will go back to the "shop floor" when he opens the council's customer service centre today.
As well as unveiling the plaque, he will help customers with inquires and answer calls.
This approach to inquiries is one that has struck a positive note with the executive leader.
He said: "I am keen to see how well our new customer service, with its customer-focused approach, can resolve queries and give up-to-the-minute information to the people of the borough.
"The new centre is a good example of our commitment to providing the best possible service to the discerning residents of Fareham.
"My philosophy is that we should treat our residents as customers and as if they could go elsewhere if they are not pleased with the services we provide."
The aim of the centre is to provide a one-stop shop for all inquires.
Customers with several queries, spanning the work of many different departments, will not be passed around the authority, but wherever possible will have their inquiries dealt with by one advisor.
