AS the only Polish child in a 264-strong Southampton school, Victoria Kedziora's classmates knew the perfect way to make her feel welcome.
The nine-year-old's year group, at Fairisle Junior in Lordshill, have spent the past three terms learning Polish once a week.
The opportunity to speak to her friends in her own language has helped Victoria, pictured centre with Polish teacher Agnieszka Vaczynska, blossom.
Head teacher Yvonne Adams told the Daily Echo: "It has given Victoria a much greater sense of belonging and she is much more confident.
"She is a quiet girl but this has given her that much more status and she is holding her own more. It must be a huge relief for her once a week."
Year 4 have also discovered where Poland is, learned about its history and culture and, with the help of Miss Vaczynska, given special assemblies to parents, entertained the school with songs and visited other Polish-speaking children.
