A MONTH of trips to nearby villages for elderly Waterside residents is over after a relocated village post office finally opened.

The counter reopened at the Fawley Express store in the Square after moving 50 yards from the old post office, which shut on May 6. The move was supposed to have taken three days.

Royal Mail blamed the delay on an unforeseen problem with the BT network.

Residents complained at having to catch buses to draw their weekly pension from neighbouring villages.

Joint shop owner Manjinder Sangha said: "Everyone can't believe it's finally open.

"We're very happy that our customers no longer have to travel to other post offices to collect their pensions and use services."

A Post Office spokesman apologised for the inconvenience.
