A HAMPSHIRE man was left with a broken jaw after he was beaten in an unprovoked attack in Chandler's Ford.

The 21-year-old was walking along Winchester Road after leaving The Halfway Pub in the early hours of the morning.

He was approaching the Kingsway junction at about 12.30am when he heard running footsteps behind him. As he turned two men hit him on the head, with what is believed to have been a piece of wood.

The attackers beat the man as he lay on the ground, giving blows to his body, legs and head.

The two men are believed to have fled from the scene in a car that had a noisy exhaust.

The victim was treated in hospital for injuries including a broken jaw and a fracture to his right eye socket.

Detectives at Eastleigh CID want to speak to anyone who was in The Halfway Pub on the evening of Friday, June 16, or anyone who witnessed the assault or saw two men running along Winchester Road.
