AS the competition heats up in Power FM's new contest to find a Superstar DJ, the station's Breakfast Show presenter, Rick Jackson gives us an insight into a day in the life of a real Superstar DJ.

"As a breakfast show presenter my day starts pretty early. My first alarm goes off at 4.30am, then another 15 minutes later and an emergency' one ten minutes after that!," says Rick, pictured above.

"I live in Fareham so it's just ten minutes into the station in order for me to be ready to wake up the south from 6am. The show runs for three hours but contrary to many people's belief that my work day finishes at 9am it doesn't! Every day after the show we all get together to bat some ideas around, especially the next bit of pain we can induce on Maximum Bob!

"I always try to get out of the office by 1pm at the latest because I think it's really important to have a life. After all what would a presenter have to talk about if they couldn't share the happenings in their life with everyone?!

"I'm training for the Great South Run in October, so I run at least three times a week. Some afternoons I'll go back and see my family on the Isle of Wight or I'll catch up with friends.

"I always try to have a 30-minute Power Nap' to keep me refreshed and prevent me from falling asleep at 8pm! I normally go out for dinner or drinks a couple of times during the week, otherwise, I'll be in front of the TV watching the World Cup, Big Brother or Top Gear! Then it's to bed by 10.30pm so that I don't sleep through my alarm in the morning! Not exactly rock 'n' roll but I wouldn't swap it with anyone else!"
