POLICE in Winchester are targeting underage drinkers during the World Cup.
The clampdown will see anyone wanting to buy alcohol in pubs across the city asked to prove their age if they look at all under the age of 21.
Winchester's PubWatch members say asking for ID from those looking under the age of 21 is the best way to ensure only those legally allowed to purchase alcohol get served.
Bar bosses across Winchester have also promised not to serve anyone who is already excessively drunk, again to reduce antisocial behaviour in the city.
The drive will be backed up by a spot checks.
Plain-clothed police officers will accompany underage drinkers as they try to buy drinks in Winchester's pubs.
