TOGETHER staff and shoppers at Sainsbury’s in Shirley have raised a staggering £5,531.98 for the James Shears and Alan Bannon Memorial Fund.
All week the collection buckets have been placed at each of the tills and tannoy announcements made in store highlighting the appeal. The store’s deputy manager Tony Hadwick said: “Its been a tremendous effort.
“Some of our staff live in the block of flats and wanted to raise money.
“Our customers have supported it really well.”
The store is continuing to supply the Salvation Army Centre in nearby Victor Street with tea, coffee and cakes as it is continues to be used as a drop in centre for residents who cannot return to their flats following last week’s fire.
