PUPILS achieve well, work hard and enjoy lessons at one Hampshire school that has received a glowing inspection report.
Inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) described Scantabout Primary School in Chandler's Ford as a good school.
Pupils' personal development and the care and support given by staff were found to be outstanding at the 219-pupil primary.
The leadership of head teacher Veronica Shaw, who joined the school in Ionic Close last September, was labelled outstanding, and the management of the school was found to be good overall.
Mrs Shaw has introduced new assessment procedures that have helped to raise teachers' expectations of pupils, and matched tasks more appropriately to their needs.
A review of the school's curriculum was found to have had a positive impact on pupils' learning, enabling youngsters to achieve well overall.
Inspectors also praised the social, moral and spiritual development of pupils who in Year 6 are given a wide range of responsibilities, including mentoring reception children and working as librarians.
Mrs Shaw said: "We are delighted with this report.
"The whole team work hard and with such commitment that it is gratifying when their successes are praised so publicly.
"The teachers ensure that lessons are stimulating and enjoyable, giving our hardworking pupils the best possible chance to achieve.
"The children really do behave superbly and we are extremely proud of them."
Chairman of governors Andy Ray congratulated staff and pupils at the school on the excellent report, which he said was "well deserved".
