RECORD-breaking disabled sailor Geoff Holt will be among the crowds adding an inspirational flavour to this Saturday’s Celebrity SunWalk.

With just two days to go until hundreds of fundraisers take to the streets of Southampton for the walk, sponsored by Celebrity Cruises and backed by the Daily Echo, Geoff has given his backing to the event.

Geoff, from West End, who was the first disabled person to sail solo around Britain, said he was looking forward to being involved with the fundraiser that is on course to raise thousands of pounds for breast cancer charities across the country.

He said: “My nan died of breast cancer so it personally means a lot to me to support this event. It is something that I could get involved in to show my support to the charity. ”

Geoff, 43, will be completing the route alongside his wife Elaine and eight-year-old son Tim as they make their way around the course that takes participants on either a 5km or 10km walk around the city.

“The whole family is involved and Tim is very excited about taking part,” Geoff added.

He said he was sure Southampton would rise to the challenge of hosting the first Celebrity SunWalk. He said: “The city has a long track record of doing these events. The city is full of good people and it doesn’t take much for them to turn out in numbers to support a good cause and take part in raising money.”

Geoff, who became quadriplegic after breaking his neck in a freak swimming accident, will be one of a number of famous faces involved in the event. Celebrity makeover duo Colin and Justin, last seen in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, will be MCs for the day. Hampshire yachtswoman Emma Pontin will be helping to start the race while singing sensations Marcella Detroit and Jocelyn Brown will top the entertainment bill.

Also at Mayflower Park, from where the race starts at 11am and finishes will be a whole host of family entertainment.

The park will also provide the backdrop for the official naming ceremony of Celebrity Cruises latest ship Celebrity Eclipse as the celebrations begin after her mercy mission to rescue stranded travellers in Spain.
