LEADING candidates from the three main parties took part in a Question Time-style event in Winchester last night.
Alan Whitehead, Labour MP for Southampton Test for 13 years, Sandra Gidley, Romsey’s Lib Dem MP of the past decade, and Michael Mates, Tory MP for East Hants since 1983, were joined by Daily Echo editor Ian Murray for the good natured debate.
An audience of around 75 residents, students and party loyalists posed questions on the country’s nuclear deterrent, respect for teachers, anti-terror laws, and whether the Government should compensate those disrupted by the volcanic ash flow from Iceland.
The event, chaired by University of Winchester vice chancellor Professor Joy Carter, at The Stripe, was the first of its kind in the country to beamed live over the Internet.
The event was hosted by the The Media and Film School at the University of Winchester.
