SOUTHAMPTON health bosses will today discuss new figures showing that, although they have hit the majority of their targets, hundreds of patients were left waiting longer than they should have for vital MRI and CT scans.
The figures, part of Southamp-ton City Primary Care Trust's annual performance report, show the trust failed to meet government targets dictating how long patients must wait for the crucial scans.
They show that, in April this year, there were 95 people waiting longer than 13 weeks for a MRI or CT scan, compared to a target figure of 24.
A total of 114 patients waited longer than ten weeks for a scan compared to a target figure of 63.
The performance figures show a great improvement in waiting times other than for MRI and CT scans, with targets met almost across the board.
Patient targets relating to waiting times for outpatient appointments, diagnostics tests, A&E and treatment have all been hit.
The number of outpatients waiting 11 weeks or more for an appointment was just 36, compared to a target figure of 389.
However, the number of patients waiting more than 20 weeks for treatment was 281, compared to a target figure of 269.
Dave Meehan, director of strategy and performance, said: "Although we are in the very early stages of the financial year, we are pleased to say the majority of targets set have been achieved or we are making good progress towards their achievement.
"In addition, we have recorded a small financial under-spending for the month of April 2006.
"The PCT is working with Southampton University Hosp-itals Trust to reduce MRI/CT scan waits through the redesign of care pathways and investment in additional scans."
The figures will be discussed today at a meeting of the city's primary care trust board at the Western Community Hospital.
