THE Winchester In Bloom Group has launched its annual floral competitions.
The contests were thought to be in doubt after the city council pulled its support for the annual floral displays, a decision reversed by the incoming Conservative administration.
The group wants to encourage gardeners of all ages and skills to create floral displays and enter the competitions.
Entries are welcome from businesses, retailers and the private sector. Entry forms can be collected from various outlets including the Tourist Information Centre, Hilliers and Brambridge and Compton garden centres and horticultural societies.
Children can get involved by entering a competition to create exciting art based on the floral theme and entry forms have been sent to local schools.
Photographers can get snapping too by entering the photographic competition, sponsored by Beales department store in The Brooks.
Groups are helping by donating hanging baskets for a display at the cathedral refectory. First Twyford Guides and 3rd Winchester City West Guide Company produced eight baskets.
For further information call the group's secretary, Merral Cocking, on 01962 883032.
