A PINK pig with a £100m turnover is set to become Hampshire’s newest attraction.
Plans to create Peppa Pig World, a theme park dedicated to the children’s favourite cartoon character, have been unveiled in a major money-spinning expansion of Paultons Park.
In its largest ever project, the Ower attraction has teamed up with E1 Entertainment and the TV show’s creators, Astley Baker Davies, to build seven new rides inspired by the award-winning animated series.
This includes an area for splashing in muddy puddles and an opportunity to see Peppa’s hilltop house, a fully animated attraction complete with Peppa and her family enjoying breakfast.
Along with the themed rides and outdoor play area, the park will also boast the only Peppa Pig-themed indoor play area in the country.
The deal, which has an Easter 2011 opening date, is a massive coup for Paultons, which can look forward to piggybacking on the success of a brand that has children across the world in thrall.
Peppa Pig is currently one of the UK’s biggest pre-school shows and has been sold to 180 countries worldwide including France, Germany and Japan.
Book sales comfortably top two million and DVD sales have soared above three million, while tickets to a live stage version are also selling well and a computer game is imminent. In total, Peppa’s earnings topped £100m last year.
Hannah Mungo, licensing manager at E1 Entertainment said: “The partnership with Paultons will mark Peppa’s first entry into the theme park arena and we are confident that Peppa Pig World will extend the relationship consumers have with the brand beyond the TV show and product range into real-life experiences that will be treasured by families in years to come.”
Steve Lorton, commercial director for Paultons Park said: “This is by far the largest project the park has ever undertaken and we are thrilled to have secured an exclusive licence with E1 Entertainment for the UK and Eire.
“Paultons Park will be the only place in the UK where Peppa Pig fans will be able to enjoy this unique experience and we look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide.”
