A WITNESS to the stabbing of a Southampton teenager told jurors how he looked as if he was "running for his life" as he was chased by the young man accused of his murder.
In a statement read to the court, Lisa Holloway said she was watching her five-year-old daughter play below their flat when she saw trouble flare between the victim, Daniel Loader and the 17-year-old accused of his murder.
She described seeing them running around her car with Daniel, also 17, being chased by the accused, who cannot be identified.
Describing Daniel she said: "He was being chased. He looked as though he was running for his life."
Jurors heard from other residents of the Aldermoor estate where the stabbing happened last April.
Lisa Wells said she saw events unfold from the balcony of her flat in Bransbury Close.
She described seeing Daniel being chased and when asked how he looked she said: "He looked like he was determined to get away."
Asked what the defendant looked like, she replied: "Like he was determined to catch him."
Winchester Crown Court also heard from a 17-year-old witness who described the defendant as someone who got into trouble to build up his reputation.
"He (the defendant) was the sort of person who wanted to make a name for himself," said the witness, who cannot be identified.
The court then heard from police officers who attended the scene following the stabbing.
PC Ian Wicks said he tried to help by dispersing the crowd around Daniel, who was lying on the ground with two stab wounds in his back.
He also told the court how police had been called to the area earlier in the day after complaints about youngsters making a nuisance.
PC Wicks said a group of teenagers ran away from them as the patrol car approached the shops in Aldermoor Road. He said they found bags of beer which were confiscated.
The defendant denies murder.
