SOME of the people living in a Southampton block of flats damaged when a Moscow State Circus trailer ploughed into it have been allowed to return home.
The housing association which owns Avalon House in Bitterne Road West carried out a full structural survey yesterday of the seven flats.
It found that four of the homes in the three-storey building are safe to return to but that the three remaining properties need more work to make them safe.
A First Wessex Housing Group spokesman said it was working alongside Southampton City Council’s housing team to arrange temporary accommodation for those residents.
Meanwhile police have released a 35-year-old man from Romania who was driving the lorry when it became detached from the trailer it was carrying.
He was arrested and questioned on suspicion of using a motor vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger and released on police bail until August 11.
Traffic police are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident on the road’s eastbound carriageway near the junction with Rampart Road, on Tuesday at 6.05am, to call Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101.
