THE ART of writing Asian poetry will be shown during a free workshop in Southampton.

Naeem Saleem, a performing artist and singer from Pakistan, will be hosting the hour-long session at Southampton YMCA in conjunction with Pukaar, a Southampton based charity on July 7.

The workshop will be conducted in the languages of Urdu and Punjabi and will be an opportunity for amateur poets to learn the art of writing pure poetry.

Romail Gulzar, of Pukaar, said: "So many people write their own poetry already which is very good but this will give them the chance to learn how to do it in the pure traditional way and learn how to craft their own words.

"We will need people to bring their own poems with them on the day so Naeem has got something to work with."

The session runs from 6-7pm at the Southampton YMCA and booking is essential as there are only 15 places available.

To book a place or for more information call Pukaar on 023 8022 4710.
