CIGARETTES worth more than £5,000 were stolen during a smash and grab raid at a Southampton supermarket.
Police were called to Waitrose in Portswood around 1am yesterday where they found the doors to the store had been rammed by the thieves as they forced their way inside.
They targeted the cigarette and Lotto counter, which was yesterday sealed off by police.
The doors to the store in Portswood Road were also boarded up.
Police are investigating the raid – said to be the second time the store has been targeted in recent weeks – and are urging anyone with information or who saw people acting suspiciously in the area on the night to come forward with information on 101.
