TORY leader David Cameron has accepted the Queen’s offer to become the next Prime Minister.
Mr Cameron arrived at Buckingham Palace tonight to accept her invitation to form a new government in an audience that lasted 25 minutes.
It followed the dramatic announcement by Gordon Brown that he was standing down, bringing down the curtain on 13 years of Labour rule.
After five days of uncertainty, Mr Brown finally accepted that he was unable to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats.
David Cameron entered No 10 tonight as the first Conservative Prime Minister in 13 years.
The Tory leader said he intended to form a ''proper and full'' coalition government with the Liberal Democrats.
