A MAN is this morning fighting for his life after being stabbed on a Southampton street.

The man, in his 20s, managed to walk in to Southampton General Hospital around midnight last night where he told staff he'd been stabbed.

He underwent emergency surgery and police this morning said they believe his condition was critical.

It's thought the stabbing happened in the Millbrook area of the city late last night.

Detectives and uniformed police this morning closed off part of Quantock Road and also cordoned off three house in nearby Pennine Road as investigations in to what happened got underway.

Just around the corner the car park and all access to both KFC and McDonalds restaurants was also taped off while forensic investigations continued.

Residents were gathering outside their homes in both roads as they tried to find out what had happened in their neighbourhood overnight.

One 62-year-old man, who lives nearby, said he looked out of his window when he heard a commotion just after 11pm.

He added: "There was banging and crashing, we looked outside and there was a guy who was running down the road. He was being chased by people in a grey or silver car."

Neighbours at the scene said they believed the stab victim had been inside a house in Pennine Road, where he was staying with a woman, but he didn't live there.

Claire Parker, 24, who lives in Chiltern Green, said she was worried at what had happened in her local community.

She said: "We heard shouting and screaming last night, it just sounded like somebody swearing really. It didn't help with trying to get the kids to sleep. It makes me feel scared. I don't feel safe."

Three men - two aged 30 and one aged 24 - have been arrested in connection with the knifing and are currently being held in police custody.
