HAMPSHIRE students sitting an exam were interrupted after a power cut hit their school this afternoon.
Forty Peter Symonds students in Winchester had just sat down to their Spanish AS level exam when their computers and lights shut down at around 1.30pm.
The electricity was out for 20 minutes but a spokesman for the school said students were given extra time to complete their exam once the electricity came back on.
A spokesman for Southern Electric said problems were “on going” on Park Road, Sarum Road and Gordon Road. He added the cause of the problem was an underground cable being cut by a third party.
Shortly afterwards a large part of Kings Worthy was left without electricity after an underground power cable was cut in an unrelated incident.
Up to 1,400 residents were left without power for almost two hours between 1.50pm and 3.45pm.
A spokesman for Southern Electric said the second incident was was caused by another third party cutting an underground cable.
The spokesman added that maps of their underground cable network were available on request to anyone digging in the area.
