A CARE worker was jailed after admitting stealing more than £4,000 from an elderly nursing home resident.
Kelvin Kamupira, 25, was working at the Westacre in Sleepers Hill, Winchester, when he stole a debit card from a 94-year-old female resident.
Winchester Crown Court that he used the card to take £4,053 from her bank account and buy various luxury items for himself, including clothes and a television.
Kamupira, of Weardale Road, Chandler's Ford, committed the offences over a two-week period in March of this year, the court was told.
Robert Bolton, mitigating, said: "He is a young man of good character who wanted to do more with his life but is incapable of managing his funds."
Sentencing him to 12 months in prison, Judge Keith Cutler said: "Clearly in this case you have been guilty of a very grave offence of dishonesty, which goes to the very root of that position of trust."
