SOUTHAMPTON’S two universities have each dropped a position in a league table ranking the best universities in the country.
The Complete University Guide table which rates universities on student satisfaction, spending on facilities and career prospects has seen the University of Southampton drop from 13th place to 14th.
Southampton Solent University has dropped from 110 last year to 111 in the table which lists 115 universities across the UK.
The University of Winchester also dropped its position from 2009 of 69 to 77.
A spokeswoman for the University of Southampton said they were happy with the result despite the slight drop, after climbing from 20th place they held in 2008.
“The University of Southampton is one of the UK’s leading universities, with a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. It is pleasing to see this reflected in the university guide.”
The list published today also rates universities on research, entry standards, student to staff ratio, spend on academic services, spend on facilities, honours, and completion rates.
Oxford University was top.
Cambridge was second.
