HOMES were left without power last night after an electricity substation on a telegraph pole caught fire.
Southern Electric had to isolate the supply to the box on Hookpit Farm Lane in Kings Worthy, near Winchester, after it caught alight.
Ten firefighters from two crews from Winchester were called to deal with the blaze at 8.40pm.
They used a hose reel jet to put out the fire and were at the scene until 12.10am.
It is not yet known when the power will be restored.
