A HAMPSHIRE charity is celebrating after receiving a vital piece of equipment worth £50,000 to help them fight asthma.
The Alveoscope – pictured with consultant physician Dr Peter Howarth – will be used by the Asthma Allergy and Inflammation Research (AAIR) charity based at Southampton General Hospital following a £10,000 donation from Southern Water.
The Alveoscope uses a new technique to produce microscopic imaging in a living tissue through a 1mm fibre optic miniprobe that can be introduced into a thin tube.
The other £40,000 was raised by the charity and its research department.
