A TRAIN driver was taken to hospital after yobs hurled a brick through his cab window.
The brick was thrown from a bridge as the train travelled along the tracks below. It smashed the window and injured the driver’s eye. Despite being hurt the driver continued the Southern service to Southampton Central Station.
There, he was met by British Transport Police (BTP) officers who launched an investigation.
The driver was taken to Southampton General Hospital and later discharged.
Officers have now issued an appeal for information about the incident, which happened at around 4pm on Tuesday.
The train had just left Swanwick station and was travelling at about 40mph when the brick was thrown.
Southern train company praised their driver and described the incident as “reckless vandalism”.
A spokesman added: “Our driver could have been seriously injured or worse. He is to be praised for his devotion to duty by taking the train to its final destination after he was clearly injured.”
A police spokesman confirmed that two youths had been arrested in connection with the incident.
