A PAIR of disabled volunteers are playing a key role in planning a history event in a Hampshire town.
Joanne Reed and Terry Rhodes are both giving advice and support as disability and inclusion experts ahead of the 2010 Gosport Heritage Open Days.
The steering group they are part of is focusing on improving access for all to the programme of events.
So far, Terry and Joanne have been visiting local disability groups to discuss the things that might prevent members from attending the open days.
Issues include poor lighting, a lack of accessible transport and overcrowded venues. A new accessibility checklist is being produced as a result of their research.
The nationwide event, between September 9 and 12, sees thousands of buildings of all ages, styles and functions open their doors free of charge. There are also talks, walks, family activities and historical re-enactments.
