A MAJOR search is underway at Southampton docks after a group of illegal immigrants escaped from the back of a lorry.
Several of the group fled the lorry before police were able to arrest them and are currently at large in the docks.
Officers swooped on the Western Docks after the lorry arrived from the Channel Tunnel, carrying a number of illegal immigrants, at 12.15pm.
Six of those found were immediately detained and arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally but it is believed several others were able to escape before being arrested.
Police believed those on the run have been confined to the Western Docks and have focussed their search there.
The Dorset Air Support Helicopter and UK Borders Agency have been drafted in to help locate those on the run.
