Joe Bonamassa is a one-time child prodigy who opened for his idol BB King when he was just 12 years old, he's a massive fan of blues-influenced British rockers from the 70s, and he's now developing an interest in wider global styles.
I am a huge fan of the man and his music and was lucky enough to interview him last year at Southampton Guildhall and again last week. We spoke about his new album entitled ‘Black Rock’, which he recorded in Santorini, Greece earlier on in the year, and how on some of the tracks, he continues the greek influence by mixing his own unique blues/rock style with some local musicians and traditional Greek instruments. The album which includes a duet with B.B. King on the track ‘Night Life’ entered the UK album chart at number 14 and number 1 in the Independent Album chart.
Joe has recently been touring to promote this new album and was only doing four shows in the U.K. I went to the Bournemouth gig on the 30th May and if you’ve never seen him in concert, then let me tell you, he is the most phenomenal blues-rock guitarist I have ever seen and also an amazing singer, songwriter and performer. Joe is currently being supported by Scottish singer song writer Sandi Thom, Sandi’s Country blues style put you in the mood for a heavy blues rock session with Joe Bonamassa who never fails to impress his crowds, with his spontaneous solo outbursts and catchy classic blues riffs.
If you missed the legend that is Joe Bonamassa, don’t worry because he will be back in the U.K in October and I would highly recommend you get a ticket, as this is an event not to be missed!
