SHE spends her days surrounded by food at the café she runs.

But Kaye Osborne has resisted temptation to lose four stone – in just months.

Kaye went from over-eating to being an exercise fanatic with three trips to the gym a week.

The 43-year-old, from Howards Grove in Shirley, Southampton, vowed to improve her lifestyle in October and since then has dropped from 16 stone with size 24 clothes to a 12-stone size 14.

She shed so many pounds that some friends haven’t recognised her in the street.

Her triumphant weight loss comes as the Daily Echo continues the Beat the Bulge campaign which we started after revealing that obesity costs Southampton £147m every year.

Kaye, who works as a café supervisor at HSBC in Southampton, said: “It was a problem working where I do. But these days I will take my own food in to work. And when I do eat at work I will have the salads and healthy options.

“When I started, I just really wanted to do it. I had got to a point where I did not want to go on as it was. But the exercise also made me feel really good.

“I have suffered with depression in the past and chucked most of my photos because I hated the way I looked. Now people don’t recognise me – my body shape has changed. It has given me a new lease of life.”

Kaye signed up for the Internet-based MiLife study run by NHS Southampton City, which is being piloted by GP surgeries in the area.

Participants in the trial scheme wear a band on their wrist or ankle, which tracks activity levels and weight.

At the end of each week the information is sent back to an online account by wireless technology. It is then analysed and slimmers are given feedback on their personal progress.

It comes after the Daily Echo revealed how one in four adults living in the city is classed as being dangerously fat.

MiLife is free for people who do not have to pay for prescriptions and costs about £10 per month plus a one-off cost for equipment for people who do.

To join in the trial you must live in Southampton, be over 18 and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or over. Speak to the practice nurse at your GP surgery or contact Southampton Health Trainer Georgia Sadler on 023 8051 5222.
