DETECTIVES investigating the disappearance of a malaria-infected man believe he may have gone abroad.
Police say they are considering the idea because they have still not had any confirmed sightings of the 37-year-old who has not been heard from for over a week.
Matthew vanished after calling in sick to colleagues at Southampton General Hospital where he worked as a nurse.
He was also taking part in a clinical trial to find a cure for malaria and missed an appointment for treatment in Oxford on the day he made the call, last Wednesday.
Despite an emotional plea from his family, and requests for help to find Matthew from police, there have been no sightings of Matthew since he was captured on CCTV outside a bank in Kings Cross, London, on October 5.
He has around £900 in cash and his passport with him.
Detectives say checks are being made with ports and airports across the UK as part of the investigation.
