A FREE support line is being launched in Southampton today for parents worried about their children’s drinking behaviour.
Volunteers from the charity Parent Support Link will run a 24-hour hotline for concerned adults as part of a focus on the effects of alcohol on young people.
The initiative, funded by Southampton City Council and backed by NHS Southampton City, has been launched to coincide with the start of Alcohol Awareness Week.
Callers will be offered advice in confidence on how to discuss the drinking behaviour of their offspring as well as tips on how to protect their health and welfare.
Andrew Mortimore, Director of Public Health for Southampton City said: “We know that alcohol use among young people in Southampton is an area we need to work hard on, however our experience should not be seen in isolation.
“The problem is one that is repeated all across the country and significant work has already gone into tackling the issue locally.”
Parents can call free on 023 8039 9764.
