A GANG has killed and ripped the heads off chickens belonging to an allotment holder’s grandchildren.

Vandals forced open a chicken coop using a crow bar before cruelly attacking the ten hens and leaving them dead.

Devastated grandfather of three Ross Hammond has been sickened by the mindless crime and has spoken out in a bid to get people to come forward with information.

The 46-year-old car fitter, said: “They are treated as pets and were my grandchildren’s chickens.

One is three and the other is only one, they loved coming up and collecting eggs. They even named them all. I don’t know what to say. I feel sick looking at them laying there, all scattered in the coop with their heads off.

Why would anyone do this?”

Ross, who lives in Weston, has kept the chickens at his allotment in Newtown Road since February.

He grows fruit and vegetables there and decided to buy the chickens to collect eggs from the hens.

The yobs attacked the hens with Ross’ equipment at some time during Sunday night but Ross found the bloodbath yesterday.

Now police have launched an investigation.

Ross, who lives in Weston, said: “Normally I come up here to get away from everything. It is usually really peaceful and something to do for the family. That has been completely shattered.

“I am absolutely gutted.

“There is no way it could have been a fox. Not unless there is a fox walking around with a crowbar.”
