A BROCKENHURST resident is trying to get traffic calming removed from a New Forest road on safety grounds.
Allan Hendry claims the pinch points at South Weirs may save animals’ lives but could kill a driver.
Nine pinch points were put in place along Burley Road during September as the result of a campaign by the South Weirs Action Group for Safety, whose members were worried about the number of accidents involving ponies and cattle.
But Mr Hendry has mounted a campaign to get them removed, claiming there was no consultation by Hampshire County Council.
He said the obstructions, with kerbstone edging and large solid wooden posts, are dangerous for cyclists, moped riders or bikers.
Brockenhurst Parish Council favoured an extension of the 30mph speed limit and National Park Authority chief executive Alison Barnes wrote saying the county was warned of the visual impact of the scheme and suggested a “more natural appearance”.
The matter will be discussed by council chiefs on Thursday.
