The Wombats, a marsupial loving band from Liverpool ventured down south on Tuesday the 19th of October to kick off the UK warm up tour by playing at The Joiners.
The gig was an intimate blend of new and old material, with old favourites such as “Moving To New York” and “Backfire At The Disco”. But with a new album on the way the fans were treated to some new songs including “Jump Into Fog” and “Anti D”. While the old favourites went down brilliantly with the crowd singing ever word, the new stuff was also well received.
The new songs follow the first single from the album “Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)” with stunning synth sounds, catchy melodies and the quirky upbeat sound we have grown to know and love. It was a sell out show and had a great atmosphere, lead singer Matthew Murphy commented simply saying “this is going to be a sweaty one”, you could see real passion in the fans, shouting every word right back at them. That aside there were some technical difficulties but this didn’t effect the overall performance of The Wombats. In all a brilliant night letting the world famous band showcase some new material while reminding the fans why they fell in love with their unique style of rock.
