UP to 200 people are gearing up for a mass spin challenge in the New Forest in aid of the Daily Echo-backed Help for Heroes appeal.

The Big Spin Challenge is being held next month at Totton Health and Leisure Centre in memory of former shift manager Arthur Platt.

Mr Platt, pictured, 37, from Lyndhurst was cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End for Help for Heroes appeal when he collided with a BMW near Telford, Shropshire.

Mr Platt, who was married with no children, later died in hospital.

New Forest District Council fitness manager and event organiser Toby White said: “Arthur meant a lot to a lot of people. We wanted to raise money for Arthur’s charity, in his name.”

The event is on November 14 and particpants face four 45-minute sessions on spin bikes. To join in call 0845 6590845.
