A GROUP of Southampton students have sailed to international glory after winning the Student Yachting World Cup.
The eight-strong team from Southampton Solent University beat Switzerland and 12 other nations in the week-long championships in La Rochelle, France.
Skipper Guy Jackson sprayed his fellow world champions with champagne after they returned to the university, which won the same event in 2004.
Guy, 23, of Netley, said: "I'm extremely proud to have skippered this crew. We worked so hard with the university sports staff to condition and prepare ourselves and it's really paid off."
Three of the students have graduated, which means the team has raced together for the last time. However, the university will defend its title next year.
