A HAMPSHIRE pensioner was killed after he was hit by a car as he crossed the road.

The 89-year-old from Gosport was crossing South Street, in Gosport, when he was knocked down by a Mitsubishi 4X4 on Saturday afternoon.

He was taken to Queen Alexander Hospital for treatment but attempts to save his life failed.

The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old man, was not injured in the collision.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the incident, shortly before 1pm, to contact PC Chris Powling at Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
