SOUTHAMPTON City College is in the top ten per cent in the country after its success rates rocketed.
Figures reveal the success rate for students studying level three vocational courses has increased by 19 per cent in the last three years.
It means the college, in St Mary Street, is now in the top ten per cent of general further education colleges in the country.
Success rates for 16 to 18-year-olds in full-time education are five per cent above the national average at 82 per cent. They are higher among students on the short courses, with 91 per cent getting their full qualifications.
Principal and chief executive of Southampton City College, Lindsey Noble, said: “This year has seen yet another substantial improvement in success rates, which is a great testament to our hardworking students and our dedicated staff. I would like to congratulate each and every one of them on their success.
“To be in the top ten per cent of colleges in the country is a huge accolade and something that the whole city should be proud of. We are making a contribution to nurturing a skilled workforce for Southampton and helping to supply the city with the right skills.”
The college will celebrate its success at its 2010 awards evening on November 11.
City College will host an open evening on November 18 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
