A SOUTH coast surf reef is dangerous, according to leaked details from a secret report. The Daily Echo understands there were worries over the reef’s sand-filled bags and gaps between them.
It is thought that loose strips of material have been removed, but worries over the gaps remain. The independent survey was carried out for Bournemouth Borough Council by Commercial and Specialised Diving Ltd and has been kept under wraps since September.
However, the council insists the reef at Boscombe is safe. Tony Williams, executive director for environment and economic services, the council conducted regular risk assessments and that the RNLI was satisfied with the policies in place. It reported no injuries since the reef opened a year ago.
