A TEENAGER was seriously injured in a head-on car crash near Winchester last night.

The victim was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with head injuries following the two-car smash on the A3090 outside Hursley.

Fire crews attended from Eastleigh and Winchester and cut the victim, a 17-year-old Chandler's Ford, from the wreckage of a Toyota Yaris. Two other people suffered minor injuries including the 53-year-old driver from Winchester of a Vauxhall Astra.

Watch manager Allister Owen, of Winchester Fire Station, said today: “It was a serious head-on collision. We used hydraulic equipment to remove the roof and take the man out on a spinal board.”

The ambulance service sent three ambulances and an in-care doctor to the scene near the junction of Hursley Road and Main Road at around 8.25pm.

A police spokeswoman said the teenager's injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

The road was blocked for more than four hours until 10.45pm.
