SMOKERS daunted by quitting forever are being urged to ditch the cigarettes for just one day.
Solent Healthcare Quitters is offering a new service where smokers can try quitting for 24 hours, without having to commit to stopping forever.
The Quit for One Day programme offers the same free support but comes without the pressure of kicking the habit for good.
With 27 in 100 people in Southampton smoking, the team hopes that this new scheme will encourage more to quit.
Alan Elgar, from Solent Healthcare, said: “We frequently meet people who have been thinking about stopping smoking but are unsure if they want to stop for good or are worried about committing to a full programme. Anyone who attends and wants to kick the habit for good will get our full support package to become a non-smoker. Those that don’t feel ready won’t be pushed. We are here to help, not pressure people.”
