The fuse is lit and the countdown on as Southampton’s biggest fireworks display gets set to go off with a bang this weekend.

With two days to go until the £10,000 extravaganza, organisers are urging people to book their tickets now.

The display – backed by the Daily Echo – promises to light up the Southampton sky for Guy Fawkes’ Night celebrations.

The event, organised by the Southampton Round Table No 4 club, raises cash for charities across Hampshire.

These include Radio Lollipop, children’s bereavement service Simon Says, Well Being, Fairbridge Solent, Southampton Christmas Café, and Southampton and Isle of Wight Youth Options.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 6 and promises to be the most explosive Bonfire Night the city has held.

Organisers have recruited new company Komodo Fireworks to co-ordinate the event from a shipping barge out on the water.

One of the organisers, Steve Badger, expects more than 5,000 people to watch the display.

He said: “Word is now getting around the city regarding this year’s Round Table fireworks extravaganza where a huge feast of colour will fill the night sky with the best effects the city has ever seen.”

As a part of the celebration at Mayflower Park, Coles funfair will be running from 2pm in the build-up to the display, which starts at 7:15pm.

Admissions costs £4 for adults and £2 for children. Children under three go for free.

Tickets can be bought in advance from the Daily Echo shop in Hanover Buildings or the Southampton Tourist Information Office.
