MYSTERY surrounds the sudden closure of a Southampton baby shop.
Mums turned up at Little Angels Prams in Shirley Precinct to find the store closed and they were unable to get prams they had ordered and paid for in full.
Shutters were down for the sixth day in a row and a note read: “Closing early today Thursday 1pm, sorry.”
While another poster near the entrance added: “SORRY. Due to staff holidays we will be closed Mondays until mid November. Now open 10am until 5pm Tuesdays to Saturdays.”
The family owned shop, which has sold baby and nursery equipment for 19 years in the city, promised some mums their prams would be ready for collection this week.
But when they tried ringing, emailing the shop, and visiting they have received no anwers.
Many now face a race against time to find if they can get their prams or if they have to shop elsewhere.
Mandy Gray, from Woolston, who is due to give birth next week, paid £380 for her pram.
The 37-year-old bank manager, said: “I ordered it in July. I went to collect it four weeks ago but it wasn’t there even though I had a phone call. They said it would be in at the beginning of November, but I just can’t get through.
“It is upsetting seeing all the shutters down and pregnant women walking up and turning back again. Nobody knows. I just feel sorry for people who are struggling financially.
“I’ve only got a week to go and no pram to put the baby in.”
Dad-to-be Mark Oram, 28, a manager, from Chandler’s Ford, added: “You just want to know what is going on really. We’ve paid a couple of hundred pounds.”
The Daily Echo yesterday received no reply from the owner Don Jenkings.
According to Companies House, Little Angels Prams, is not a limited company and does not exist on its list.
Trading Standards said they had not been made aware that the company had stopped trading.
