A GANG of bogus callers is targeting elderly residents in Southampton to carry out burglaries.
Police say they have received reports of three homes in the city being targeted by men claiming to be from the "water board".
A camera was stolen from a house in Thorndike Road, where an 85-year-old woman was tricked into letting them into her house.
Cash was also stolen from a 91-year-old woman at a home in Chamberlayne Road using the same distraction technique.
Southern Water is urging all householders to ask for identification before letting anyone into their home.
Anyone wishing to check to see if a caller is a Southern Water employee can contact 0845 278 0845.
