YOU could forgive her for being a bit prickly.
But this hobbling hedgehog is finally on the mend after being fitted with an eye-catching plaster cast.
Henrietta was handed in to the Hampshire Animal Rescue Team (HART) with a broken back leg after she was hit by a car.
The bright blue plastercast has made the one-year-old the star of the show at the Medstead centre – even though she is still having trouble curling up into a ball.
The group’s senior clinical assistant Caragh Hunter, 20, said: “Henrietta should make a full recovery – she’s started moving her leg again so she must be on the mend.”
Henrietta’s cast will come off in four weeks before she is cared for over winter and released back into the wild next spring.
Staff at HART have been working around the clock after a sudden influx of 33 hedgehogs in the last few months.
“I’ve never seen so many hedgehogs here,” Caragh added.
“Adults will often have two or three litters per year. I think the warm summer and global warming has increased the numbers of young ones we’re seeing at the moment.”
If you find an injured hedgehog, call the centre for advice on 01420 562335.
