A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to build ten affordable homes at Awbridge will be scrutinised by Test Valley councillors tomorrow.

Borough planning officers are recommending the green light for Hyde Housing Association’s proposals which are being opposed by Awbridge Parish Council and around 20 villagers. Objectors argue that there is no need for more housing in the village and one claimed there are 865 homes standing empty in Test Valley.

However, 95 people signed a petition backing the plans claiming there is a desperate need for more affordable rented homes in Awbridge.

Despite the proposed site being within designated “countryside” in the borough local plan, council officers say there is an “unmet need” for the development and recommend approval of Hyde Housing Association’s scheme off Romsey Road in the village.
