THE body of a man has been discovered floating in The Solent.
The gruesome find was made by the occupants of a yacht sailing off Ryde on the Isle of Wight, at around 11.25am.
Solent Coastguard dispatched the Cowes Lifeboat to the scene, and also informed the police, who sent out their own rigid inflatable craft.
The body was recovered from the scene, in the area known as Ryde Middle Bank, and brought back to land at Cowes, from where it was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious, and detectives from the Island’s CID are in the process of tracing the man’s next of kin.
Formal identification of the body and a post-mortem examination will take place in the next few days.
