POLICE are investigating allegations that a teenage girl was raped in a Hampshire alleyway.
An area near homes in Hounsdown Close, Totton, was sealed off after the girl claimed to have been assaulted in the early hours.
A police spokesman said officers were called to the scene following reports of a disturbance.
He added: “Detectives are investigating allegations that a teenage girl was sexually assaulted. The alleyway where the alleged incident took place was cordoned off to preserve any forensic evidence.”
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He was later released on bail until January 17, pending further inquiries. Police are not releasing the age of the alleged victim.
The incident is said to have occurred between 3.30am and 4.30am Sunday.
Anyone in the area at the time who saw something suspicious is asked to contact Hampshire police on 101.
