STAFF at the Fareham offices of troubled building firm Rok were last night waiting to find out if they were affected by a raft of more job losses.

Administrators announced a further 1,800 redundancies, bringing the total job losses at the firm to around 2,600.

The self-styled “nation’s local builder”, which provided repair and maintenance to schools, councils and housing associations, appointed PwC as administrators last week after it fell into financial difficulties.

Staff in the Fareham office, which employed about 50 people, said they were not allowed to comment.

The firm, which has 30 regional bases, was hit hard during the financial crisis, when it lost several clients and was previously forced to cut some 750 jobs. Only 650 staff remain.

The latest cuts come from the closure of the firm’s maintenance and improvements division in the UK and Rok’s construction business in Scotland.

Other redundancies have come from its plumbing, heating and electrical division.

PwC said the redundancies were necessary as it was clear they would not find a buyer for those divisions.

Remaining staff work within the construction and social housing business and PwC is still working to find a buyer.
